  1. Hi, i would like to know if this works the same for bamboo plywood? Or is there any other methods you know that is able to bend bamboo plywood? Hope you can help me. Email me or reply back. Thanks.

  2. It depends how thick the bamboo is. Vacuum veneering works best when the material you are bending is thin and single ply. 1/16″ is a good thickness for bending. The rule of thumb is. If you can bend one sheet by hand around a form you can usually bend multiple layers of the same material in a vacuum bag.

  3. Hey Ted!
Couldn’t find a way to contact you on your blog, so I figured this was the best way. Your blogging and woodworking tutorials are great…really informative and graphic. I’ve created an 86 minute Drum Making DVD that I think you might enjoy. Please send me an e-mail, and I would love to send you a copy of the Dvd. You can check out a preview of the DVD at www.guerrilladrummaking.com

Thanks for all the great info Ted.

  8. hello friends

Just wondering if I wanted to get a pretty hefty bend would it make sense to soak the wood in water say over night to moisten it up before I put it in the press?

    hit a brother back thanks

  9. Saturating the wood is not a good idea. The veneers swell with the excess water. Fancy veneers are very thin and can bend a lot before cracking. Rule of thumb is, if you can bend one sheet of veneer by hand to the bend you want, you can bend multiple layers in a vacuum bag. If you are using water based glues, the water will actually make the veneer more pliable than without.

  10. thanks. so what if I wanted to bend a veneer into a shape that I could not bend by hand? How do you get a really major bend in the wood?
